Our Story
Chartwell Fund promises to deliver incremental yield at no cost and we’ve been doing this for our family office for over 20 years. We are now making the partnership available to qualified outside investors for the first time.
Chartwell Fund delivers incremental yield by using the underlying value of our partner’s equity holdings to sell Put and Call Options that generate quarterly premium income.
Jim Gulley
General Partner | FINRA Series 65 Licensed
Jim Gulley has had a successful and diversified business career as a corporate executive, private investor, and entrepreneur.
He retired in 2018 from The Coca-Cola Company after a 28+ year career with roles in National Sales, Corporate Strategy & Planning, and Bottler Operations. During his tenure at Coke, Jim was the company’s principle subject matter expert for the Convenience Retail industry and served as spokesman to that industry’s trade press.
Among his accomplishments while at Coca-Cola, Jim led the invention, development, and commercialization of EcoTrac in partnership with RTC Corporation in Chicago. EcoTrac is a proprietary glide system for improved merchandising of bottles and cans. After his Coke retirement, Jim joined RTC to help them expand EcoTrac deployment in North America and Globally.
In 1985 Jim received a modest inheritance from an uncle and began investing in common stocks. During this time a fraternity brother/stock broker introduced him to the concept of selling Put Options.
In 2000 Jim took over active management of Green Gulley Farms, a family partnership started by his grandfather in the 1930’s and later managed by his father. Green Gulley Farms is comprised of timberland investments in south Mississippi, rental real estate in Mississippi and Georgia, and a portfolio of common stocks.
In 2007 Jim formed Chartwell Partners as a family partnership to pool the marketable securities he was managing for Green Gulley Farms, his personal assets, and those of his children.
Over his career in investing, Jim experienced his greatest success from selling Put Options yet he was getting mixed results from trying to pick individual stocks. In 2011 he rebalanced the Chartwell portfolio to eliminate single stock risk by investing in an S&P 500 index fund and a Utility sector ETF. He continued to sell Put Options using these funds as the maintenance requirement for trading and results improved dramatically.
